Zanpakuto

Intro

Zanpakuto is the main weapon of the Shinigami. It is used to fight Hollows and for soul burial in the human world. Each sword is unique, it has a name that the wielder need to know to activate the Shikai(initial) form that will give far more abilities than its normal form. As presumably most seated officers are capable of Shikai. It is required in order to achieve the rank of lieutenant in the 13 Protection Squad at Soul Society. The Bankai(Final Release) is the second and final upgraded form of a Zanpakuto. Those who achieve Bankai always have remarkable roles in the history of Soul Society. Mostly only Captains can use Bankai which is the ultimate technique of a Zanpakuto. Ultimately a zanpakuto is not only a mere weapon since the swords themselves are alive that will fight alongside its wielder. The sword has its own individuality that can materialize using a certain training which Kisuke Uruhara used for Ichigo Kurusaki to activate his Bankai. I myself have been amazed by this kind of swords that have their own identity. I know there have been lots of anime with weapons that are also alive but i think Bleach really have something different the zanpakuto have life not a mere weapon. • Zangetsu (Slaying Moon)

  Wielder: Ichigo Kurosaki

  Zangetsu (Slaying Moon) unlike most Soul Reapers, who can seal their zanpakuto after releasing it, Ichigo's zanpakuto is always in its released form. Shikai: Zangetsu can summon a sword that takes the form of his constant Shikai release state: an oversized, elegant, black cleaver almost as tall as himself with no crossguard or proper hilt. It is instead held by its cloth-wrapped tang. Shikai Special Ability: Getsuga Tensho (Moon Fang Heaven-Piercer; "Piercer of Heaven" in the English anime): Zangetsu fires concentrated energy blasts from the tip of his blade in the shape of a crescent moon or in a shape of a wave. Zanpakuto Spirit Form: The spirit of Zangetsu resembles a tall (about the height of Kenpachi Zaraki) 40 to 50-year-old man with unkempt facial hair and long ragged black hair. He dresses in tattered all black garbs with narrow sunglasses and a long flowing overcoat that flares out into ragged ends.

  

• Sode no Shirayuki (Sleeved White Snow)

  Wielder: Rukia Kuchiki

  Sode no Shirayuki (Sleeved White Snow) In its sealed form, Sode no Shirayuki is a normal katana with a rectangular tsuba with inward-curved corners with curved slits above and below the blade and a series of curved lines embossed on either side of the blade. It has a reddish-brown hilt. Its Shikai command is "Dance" (mae). Rukia holds her Zanpakuto out in front of her and turns it in a circle counter-clockwise. While she is turning it, the blade, hilt and tsuba turn completely white. The tsuba becomes a hollow snowflake-like circle and a white ribbon forms from the pommel from the end of the handle. Shikai Special Ability: Sode no Shirayuki has control over ice, much like Toshiro Hitsugaya's Hyorinmaru, but uses it in a different manner. Like Kaname Tosen's Suzumushi and Kisuke Urahara's Benihime, Sode no Shirayuki possesses more than one ability in Shikai. Sode no Shirayuki's abilities are labeled as "dances" by Rukia. Sode no Shirayuki manifests herself as a beautiful Yuki-onna dressed in white and light blue clothes. She has long, pale blue hair that is clipped at the left side of her head at the front, while on the right it hangs loose and is cut somewhat shorter. She wears a Furisode kimono: The top part of her clothing has long sleeves that reach the ground, and the bottom part is also long and covers her feet. She seems to draw her Zanpakutō from the palm of her left hand.

  

• Katen Kyokotsu (Flower Heaven, Crazy Bone)

  Wielder: Shunsui Kyoraku

  Katen Kyokotsu (Viz "Flower-Heaven Bone of Madness"; Flower Heaven, Crazy Bone): His Zanpakuto is unique in that it exists as two completely separate swords, existing as a daisho sword pair, consisting of a tachi and a wakizashi. Their cross guards are rectangles, with the corners cut off, decorated by a pattern of cherry petals and lines, and each sports a dark-blue handle. He keeps them sheathed through his waist tie at his left side; although, during battle, the swords have been shown to be placed on both sides of his sash. Like other Zanpakuto, Katen Kyokotsu has a personality of its own. However, unlike other Zanpakuto, this personality shines through in battle and prevents Shunsui from fighting with his full powers until Katen Kyokotsu is in the mood for it. Because of this, Shunsui does not like to "play" with it. Its Shikai command is "Flower Wind Rage and Flower God Roar, Heavenly Wind Rage and Heavenly Demon Sneer" (hana kaze midarete, kashin naki, tenpu midarete, tenma warau; Viz "When the Flower Wind Rages, the Flower God Roars, When the Wind of Heaven Rages, the God of the Underworld Sneers"). Kyoraku sets the two blades against each other in a cross, and then pulls after uttering the poem-like command. When the flash clears, Katen Kyōkotsu has become a pair of huge, heavily-curved, black Chinese scimitars with silver edges. The hilt and tsuba of each are still the same as they were in Katen Kyokotsu's sealed-form, but they now sport long red tassels dangling from the end. Despite the two swords becoming identical in this state, Shunsui has stated they still serve as one (the wakizashi) being used mainly for speed strikes, and the other (the tachi) being used mainly for power strikes. Hence that they still exist as a daisho sword pair, with the wakizashi being slightly smaller in size than the tachi. The power of Katen Kyokotsu is to "make children's games real". The Zanpakuto makes the rules and anyone who steps within the boundaries of its spiritual pressure is forced to play by those rules, including Shunsui himself. According to Shunsui, "if you win you live, if you lose you die".

  

• Hyorinmaru

  Wielder: Toushiro Hitsugaya

  Hyorinmaru (Ice Ring) When sealed, Hyorinmaru looks like a normal katana with the exception of the guard, which is in the shape of a four-pointed bronze-colored star. Its hilt is light blue and sheath dark blue. The sheath completely dissolves when he draws his sword. The sword is somewhat longer than most Zanpakuto, at about 1.4 meters long, making it taller than Hitsugaya, preventing him from wearing it at the hip. Instead he carries it on his back by his green sash over his right shoulder. Hitsugaya is one of four people that carry a Zanpakuto on their back, the others being Ichigo Kurosaki, Love Aikawa, and Hiyori Sarugaki. Hyorinmaru's release command is "Sit Upon the Frozen Heavens" (sōten ni zase; Viz "Reign over the Frosted Heavens"). In its Shikai, Hyorinmaru extends slightly in length, and gains a crescent-shaped blade attached to its hilt by a long metal chain, which can extend greatly if necessary by force of will. The chain itself can be used as an attack or to entangle a target. Shikai Special Ability, Hyorinmaru allows Hitsugaya to control water and ice. His slashes create an immense amount of spiritual power which overflows from the tip of the blade, creating a flow of ice shaped like a Chinese dragon. The dragon flies towards opponents and instantly freezes anything it touches. Hyorinmaru can create multiple ice dragons to attack an opponent from various angles. Hitsugaya can also direct his slashes towards the ground and form a wave of ice which rushes over his opponents, overwhelming and freezing them. The chain-blade also freezes anything Hitsugaya traps with it. The power it expels is so overwhelming that in Soul Society (where Hitsugaya is not placed under a limiter), its mere release affects the weather within the immediate vicinity, creating a thunderstorm or a blizzard.

  

• Senbonzakura (Thousand Cherry Blossoms)

  Wielder: Byakuya Kuchiki

  Senbonzakura (Thousand Cherry Blossoms) a reference to Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura) A regular katana, with a simple cross guard, which is a simple open frame, much like a four-pane window. It has a white-colored hilt and white sheathe. Shikai is triggered by the command "Scatter" (chire). Shikai Special Ability: In its Shikai, Senbonzakura's blade separates into a thousand slender, tiny blade fragments, which then fly away from the hilt, leaving only the sword's handle in the wielder's hand. Senbonzakura can also transform himself into these many small blades.[17] While the blades are supposedly too small to see normally, they reflect light in such a way as to appear as cherry blossom petals. By swinging the hilt, Senbonzakura can control the blade fragments at will, allowing him to shred opponents at a distance and break through almost any defense. Senbonzakura appears as a masked samurai in full-body armor. He has long, dark brown hair tied with a silver ribbon and wears a golden forehead plate that resembles a half-cherry blossom. From what little is seen from when his mask was broken apart, he appears to resemble Byakuya to some degree.
